Learn why the edges of your 016 solid black or 042 sheer nude French tip nail wraps are lifting and how to fix them with simple at-home steps.

Quick answer

For lifting edges on 016 or 042 semi-cured gel wraps, the fix depends on the cause: reseal with a UV gel topcoat if the wrap is still tacky, or trim and patch if the edge has peeled back.

Why edges lift on semi-cured wraps

Unlike fully cured polish, semi-cured UV gel wraps need a UV lamp to harden completely. If the edge wasn't pressed firmly before curing, or if you skipped the topcoat, it can lift within days. Oily nail beds and frequent hand washing also weaken the bond.

When to replace instead of repair

If the wrap is dirty, wrinkled, or the lifting exposes more than a third of the nail, patching won't hold. Remove the wrap and start fresh. For small edge lifts caught early, the steps below work well.

Diagnosis & repair steps

  • Symptom: The edge of the wrap has lifted away from the nail plate, usually at the free edge or cuticle line.
  • Likely cause: The wrap wasn't fully cured at the edge, or no UV gel topcoat was applied. Oily residue on the nail before application can also cause lifting.
  • Corrective action (if wrap is still tacky): Press the lifted edge down firmly with a cuticle pusher, then cure under a UV lamp for 60 seconds. Apply a UV gel topcoat over the entire nail, cap the free edge, and cure again for 60 seconds. If the wrap is no longer tacky, skip to the next step.
  • Corrective action (if wrap has peeled back): Trim the lifted portion with clean cuticle scissors. Apply a tiny drop of UV gel topcoat to the exposed nail, then press a small piece of a matching wrap (from a spare) over it. Cure for 60 seconds, then seal with topcoat and cure again. If the lift is larger than 1/3 of the nail, remove the whole wrap and reapply.
  • Stop or choose another option: If the wrap is damaged, dirty, or the repair doesn't lie flat, remove it completely. Soak in acetone or use a wrap removal solution, then apply a fresh wrap following the full cure and topcoat steps.

Products mentioned

  • 016: 16 semi-cured UV gel wraps in solid black; require a UV light to cure; a UV gel topcoat is recommended for durability. The solid black finish shows edge lifting easily, so proper curing and topcoat are essential to keep the edges flush.

  • 042: 16 semi-cured UV gel wraps in a sheer nude with white V French tips; require a UV light to cure; a UV gel topcoat is recommended for durability. The sheer base and white tip create a visible line where lifting can occur; careful edge sealing preserves the French design.
